PUBLIC NOTICE: Vacancy on the Board of Commissioners
The Blount County Fire Protection Utility District is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on its Board of Commissioners.
The Commissioners of the District serve four-year terms. Vacancies are filled by appointment by the Blount County Mayor from a list of three nominees certified by the Board of Commissioners. A vacancy will exist on May 11, 2026, due to the expiration of the term of a current member.
The Board plans to certify a list of three nominees to the Mayor at its regular business meeting on April 21, 2026.
Requirements for Consideration
To be eligible for nomination, an individual must meet the following statutory and local criteria:
Residency/Subscriber Status: Candidates must reside within the District’s boundaries and be a current customer (active subscriber) of the Blount County Fire Protection Utility District.
Basic Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
Ethical Standards: Must not be a current employee of the District or hold any other public office that creates a legal conflict of interest.
Mandatory Training: Under Tennessee Law (T.C.A. § 7-82-308), newly appointed commissioners must complete 12 hours of training within one year of appointment. Thereafter, commissioners are required to complete 6 hours of continuing education every three years.
Commitment: Must be prepared to oversee the financial, legal, and operational stability of the District in its mission to provide fire protection services.
